The Hummingbird Bit works wirelessly with tablets, Windows, and Mac machines. The Bluetooth USB dongle is required to use the Hummingbird Bit with Snap!, Python, or Java on Windows or Mac machines. You must purchase it in addition to the Bit Kit if you are going to be using these languages on these devices.
For Chromebooks, you must download the code onto the controller via USB cord and then the Hummingbird Bit can run the program wirelessly.
The Hummingbird Duo can be upgraded to run a program wirelessly using tablets with the purchase of the Bluetooth Upgrade Bundle. After switching to Bluetooth, you will be able to program in our free BirdBlox app on your phone or tablet.
The original Hummingbird board sold before 2015 does not work wirelessly and must be plugged into a computer or Raspberry Pi while running a program.
The Finch Robot does not work wirelessly and must be plugged into a computer or Raspberry Pi to operate. The Finch does come with a long USB cord, which allows for a range of movement.
